John Steinbeck Publication proofs and letters, 1954-1956.

This small collection contains an unrevised proof copy of John Steinbeck's California-based novel, Sweet Thursday, published by Viking Press. In addition, there are two letters of correspondence between Steinbeck and Roland Dickey, editor of University of New Mexico Press, concerning the publication of a compilation of criticism of Steinbeck's work. Also included is a typescript of "Rationale," which Steinbeck sent along with one of the letters to Dickey. The collection also includes a letter containing Steinbeck's comments on his own writing.
